In the workshop we will work on plant dyeing and create our own natural pigments. We will think of the meaning of their colours, relation to a place, its land and history, but also their materiality and technology. Through these techniques, we will discuss the herbarium practice as a method to rethink narratives that still romanticise nature. The title refers to the site of death of Rosa Luxemburg in Landwehr canal, Berlin and her polish origins. Herself she collected plants and kept an herbarium during her lifetime, an object where the personal and political coexisted. We will be working with flora present in the urban landscape of Poznan. During the workshop we will explore several techniques of dyeing textiles, make our pigments from scratch, imprint techniques with colour and plants. Together we will create a large textile work that will be placed as floating in the waters of the river Warta.
Workshop will start at the building of Municipal Gallery Arsenal where we will prepare textiles. Then we will go to the Warta river to present them in the water.
